How to Select Your LED Light Manufacturer

LED light manufacturer’s are not equal. There are a number of factors worthy of consideration when selecting a LED light supplier.

For starters how long has the light manufacturer been in business? Although LED technology has been around for approximately 70 years the manufacturing of the wide assortment of LED products we see today i.e. tube lights, flood lights, panel lights, street lights and the list goes are relatively new introductions.

When evaluating a LED light manufacturer look to see if the company has a history of 5 to 10 years or more of production and operates as an Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) and Original Design Manufacturer (ODM). ODM manufacturer design and produce a product as specified, which is then rebranded by another company for sale.

LED Light Manufacturer ISO and Testing Firm Participation

Does the LED light manufacturer participate in International Organization for Standardization (ISO), specifically ISO 9000 and ISO 9001? ISO participation requires a third party certification confirming a company meets the quality management system fundamentals, which the standard is based. Independent confirmation via an audit process is required to maintain certification status.

In addition to factory certification are products subject to evaluation by independent testing firms including Design Light Consortium (DLC), Intertek Testing Laboratories (ETL) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL). Do lights meet Energy Star compliance standards? Does the LED light manufacturer stand behind its products with a 5 year warranty?
